Talk to Me
by Farida Mihoub

Talk to me while I am sleeping.
Tell me that you are thinking of me,
and that you got home safely.
Tell me that you had a nice day at work,
that you put the car keys
in the vase in the hall,
and quickly took your shoes off
before sitting for a while on the couch
where the remote control is waiting
for you to turn the TV on.

Talk to me even though I am sleeping.
Tell me that you'll have the dinner
I prepared and covered with a napkin
for it to look fresh.
Then you'll go to the bathroom
to feel the water shower you.
The face first, down to your chest
and back, until it reaches your feet,
washing away another day,
and waiting for the next one.

Talk to me, I am still sleeping.
Tell me that you are happy
because soon you'll find me.
You'll open the door noiselessly,
stand up for a while to find your way
through the bag, the dress,
and the tights that I neglected to pick up
from the carpet.
Talk to me and come closer
to kiss and take me.
